is an artist collective based in Slovenia. Since the early 1980s, their visual and sound practice has engaged with strategies of appropriation of the language of power, both of the State and the market. They introduced the concept of retro-avant-garde in 1983, spurring the debates that led to the creation of the seminal NSK project. Laibach Kunst has been exhibited internationally at MoMA, Museo Reina Sofía, Garage Museum, MGLC, Cukrarna, among many other venues.
ASSIMILATOR is a monumental black monolith forged in Trbovlje, part relic, part oracle. Known as the Laibach Cube, the sculpture functions as a system of absorption and reflection. At rest, it meditates; when approached, it activates, emitting sound fragments drawn from Laibach’s collective subconscious. Each visitor’s presence triggers unique responses, distorted and replayed through the Cube’s surface. Far from a conventional performance object, the Cube operates as a ritual machine and sentient mass, processing rather than performing. With schizophrenic precision, it turns memory into sonic experience, situating the viewer within a dialogue between relic, machine, and oracle.
