ROLA ROLLS imagines a future depleted of fossil fuels, where humans evolve into a species called “Rola.” The installation unfolds through an AI-generated family tree, Tree of Rola, and the figure of R, who undertakes self-remodelling to become Rola. By combining sci-fi storytelling with machine learning, eobchae reflects on the accelerated technological adaptation and the logics of capitalism. The work envisions cybernetic futures where mutation becomes survival strategy, while also critiquing the fantasies of optimisation that underpin both AI and extractive industries. ROLA ROLLS questions whether technological evolution liberates or further entangles humanity within systems of crisis.
