Shadow Planet (2023), 15', BW + Colour, Stereo Sound, Courtesy of the artist.
Shadow Planet reinterprets NASA’s Mars Image Archives, shifting focus from cartographic precision to what resists mapping. Park explores blind spots and dust storms that obscure machinic vision, asking whether the planet itself performs a self-defensive opacity. By blending archival footage with fiction, she stages Mars as an active agent resisting visibility. When Martian storms block sunlight, rover cameras fail, creating interruptions that Park frames as planetary refusal. Shadow Planet becomes a poetic conflict between data and autonomy, questioning the limits of extractive vision in planetary science.
